Biography

Jerry Bjelopera is a Specialist in Organized Crime and Terrorism at the Congressional Research Service. There, he has written extensively on issues related to terrorism and counterterrorism policy. This includes work on countering violent extremism in the homeland, violent jihadists in the United States, how the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) pursues terrorism cases, and the issue of domestic terrorism. He also covers domestic intelligence efforts and other topics related to criminal organizations and federal law enforcement. Before joining CRS, Bjelopera was a strategic intelligence analyst at FBI Headquarters, where he worked on transnational organized crime and violent gangs. Bjelopera also served as an assistant professor of U.S. History at Bowie State University in Bowie, Maryland and at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. His book, City of Clerks: Office and Sales Workers in Philadelphia, 1870-1920, published in 2005, examined the work and private lives of white-collar employees in the late-19th and early 20th centuries. Bjelopera received his Ph.D. from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
