Biography

Stone Conroy is the Program Officer for South and Central Asia at the U.S. Department of State’s Outreach and Engagement Unit within the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) at the Bureau of Diplomatic Security. In this position, he promotes security cooperation and information sharing between the State Department and U.S. private sector organizations operating in the region. He also manages OSAC’s Aviation Security and International Development Working Groups. Before he joined the State Department in 2014, Stone was a Boren Fellow in Nigeria. There he served as a Conflict Management and Economic Development Fellow at Mercy Corps and worked on several peacebuilding and economic empowerment programs in the Middle Belt region of Nigeria. He also managed a Peace and Security Working Group comprised of members from NGOs, the private sector, and government agencies such as USAID, the U.S. Embassy, and the U.K. Department for International Development. In September of 2015, he and a group of other participants at PeaceHackDC won first place for their idea of using big data and new technology platforms to track hate speech toward particular groups and trigger a response system.
