Biography

Tony Sgro is the Founder and CEO of EdVenture Partners (EVP).  EVP builds industry-education partnerships for economic and societal challenges by connecting students, educators and industry leaders. Tony has more than 40 years of experience in marketing, advertising and promotion. Tony and his organization created and manage the P2P: Challenging Extremism program, a global university initiative to counter hate and extremism sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and Facebook currently on 95+ universities in 30 countries.

Originally from Boston, Tony is a graduate of State University of New York, Empire State with his degree in Marketing and a minor in Economics. He was a member of the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team, competing in international acrobatic skiing competition for 4 years and appeared on ABC’s Wide World of Sports, Skiing Magazine and is recognized by the International Ski Hall of Fame as a Pioneer of Freestyle Skiing.  During his tenure as a professional athlete, he directed freestyle campus for youth in New England, California, France, Argentina, France, and in Japan.

He was Ski School Director at Squaw Valley USA, General Manager for City Sports Magazine, Promotions Director for CBS Radio in Los Angeles and Vice President of Marketing and Sales for one of America’s largest sporting goods retailers.

Tony has been a featured speaker at events sponsored by the National Counterterrorism  Center in Washington,  the Belgian Ministry of Security and Interior’s Security Day, Radicalization Awareness Network (RAN) In Prague, Czech Republic, the Sovereign Challenge, as well as numerous  FBI Conferences, LinCT  (Learning   in   Counter   Terrorism) in Los Angeles and many other domestic and international conferences.

He has been quoted and/or generated coverage of EdVenture Partners in such leading media as NPR Morning Edition, The Wall Street Journal, PBS News Hour, Business Week, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Yahoo News, Brand Week, Fortune Magazine and Advertising Age.

Tony and his wife Laurel started EdVenture Partners 25 years ago as a way to provide young people with practical experience by bringing the internship into the classroom. EVPs unique peer-to-peer strategy has been used with great success in the classroom and on college campuses by a wide variety of clients including U.S. Department of State, Facebook, Honda, FBI, AT&T, Department of Defense, Department of Justice, CIA, NSA, American Petroleum Institute, Morocco and Qatar.

Tony can be found cycling and fly fishing in Northern California, or bicycling across the U.S. as well as through, up and down Italy, Sicily, Sardinia, Yugoslavia (former), Spain, France, Vietnam and Laos.  He is also a father of twin teenage girls, Marlo and Lucca.
